544 climbers across 69 teams obtain permit for Nepal's Spring 2026 Himalayan season

KATHMANDU: Nepal has cleared 69 expedition teams comprising 544 climbers for the spring 2026 climbing season, according to permit data released by the Department of Tourism on April 10.
The figures, covering March 1 to April 10, cover 23 peaks and span climbers from 64 countries, with the season already generating royalties of USD 3,531,780 — equivalent to over NRS 525 million.
Sagarmatha (Everest) dominates with 22 teams and 204 permitted climbers, collecting USD 2,985,000 in royalties alone.
Ama Dablam is the second most popular peak with five teams and 58 climbers, followed by Makalu (five teams, 31 climbers), Annapurna I (four teams, 27 climbers) and Himlung Himal (four teams, 38 climbers).
Among the 544 permitted climbers, the United States has the most with 60, followed by Germany (52), China (44), the United Kingdom (40), India (37), and Russia (25).
