International mountaineers and Nepali Sherpas celebrate a successful 8,163 m summit as next wave readies to climb
KATHMANDU: The autumn climbing season on Nepal’s Mt. Manaslu continues as another nine members of an 8K Expedition team achieved the 8,163-metre true summit on Thursday morning.
Lakpa Sherpa, the Managing Director at the 8K Expedition and expedition leader, praised the climbers’ “strength, focus and unity,” noting that the ascent was completed despite unsettled Himalayan weather.
The international roster included Zolbookhuu Ombo of Mongolia, Britons Tamara Claire LH and Wesley Om Marks, and Maria Kinash of Moldova, supported by an elite Nepali Sherpa crew: Dawa Ongju, IFMGA guide Tsering Pemba, Ang Pasang, Pemba Dorchee and Pasa Rinji.
According to Sherpa, all climbers are safely descending while the next group is set for a summit push on Thursday night, underscoring the steady flow of adventure enthusiasts drawn to Nepal’s high peaks this autumn.
