KATHMANDU: A 25-year-old climber from the Netherlands who fell unconscious at Camp II on Mt Ama Dablam was rescued safely this morning, said the expedition organizer.
Mohan Lamsal, managing director of Makalu Adventure, said that Klaas Post, 25, who fell ill during his descent at Camp II on Ama Dablam, was evacuated safely by Kailash Helicopter. Senior Captain Laurenz Elsasser piloted the Kailash Helicopter early morning to pick him up from Camp II.
“The climber fell unconscious during the descent and was provided care at Camp II throughout the night by guides from Makalu Adventure,” Lamsal said, adding that climbing guides descended to Camp I during the night and supplied oxygen to Camp II to save his life.
The climber was evacuated to Lukla from Camp II with oxygen support and was being brought to Kathmandu based HAMS Hospital for treatment, Lamsal said. He and two other climbers along with guides successfully reached the summit on October 27.
“Klaas couldn’t descend from Camp II, while the two others safely reached Camp I after the summit,” Lamsal said. He is now safe and his condition is stable, according to Lamsal.
