KATHMANDU: A seven-member fixing team from the Expedition Operators Association (EOA) successfully reached the summit of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812m) on Sunday afternoon, officially opening the route for all climbers this season.

According to Dawa Sherpa Lama, EOA Fixing Coordinator, the team reached the summit at 12:50 PM, marking the completion of route fixing for the autumn climbing season.

“With the route now open, both commercial and independent climbers can begin their summit pushes,” Lama said, adding that the EOA will coordinate with international climbers to ensure safer and more organized ascents on the iconic peak.

This year the Ama Dablam route fixing team is led by Nuru Wangchu Sherpa of Pangboche, a veteran with more than 20 years of Himalayan experience, including multiple ascents of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Manaslu and Makalu. His crew includes Namgel Dorji Tamang, Lal Kumar Tamang, Pasang Tenji Sherpa, Ming Nuru Sherpa and Guru Zenzen Sherpa. Nuru has headed rope-fixing teams on Ama Dablam for the past four to five years.
