KATHMANDU: Greek mountaineer Asimina Inglezou, a Guinness World Record holder, successfully summited Mount Makalu (8,485m), the world's fifth-highest peak, at 7:45 AM on Saturday.

She was accompanied by climbing guides Pemba Dorchee Sherpa and Pema Rinje Sherpa, according to Lakpa Sherpa, Expedition Leader and Managing Director of 8K Expeditions.

Inglezou holds the Guinness record for the fastest completion of the Great Himalayan Trail on foot by a woman, having completed the trail in 52 days, 6 hours and 23 minutes in 2024.

Her Makalu summit followed an acclimatisation ascent of Lobuche East Peak (6,119m), which she completed as part of her preparation for the technically demanding 8,000m objective, Sherpa added.

The summit is not her final destination this season.

Inglezou is set to continue her Himalayan campaign with attempts on Mount Everest (8,848m) and Lhotse (8,516m), according to 8K Expeditions.

8K Expeditions extended wishes for a safe descent and said it looked forward to following her continuing Himalayan journey.
