KATHMANDU:  A 37-year-old Chinese woman successfully reached the true summit of Mt Manaslu this season becoming the first female climber to have reached true summits of all 14 peaks above 8,000m without using supplemental oxygen.

“37-year-old He Jing from Xi'an in Shaanxi province, stood atop Mt Manaslu at around 3:50pm on September 23 without using supplemental oxygen, " said Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks.

While continuing her journey to complete all 14 peaks without using auxiliary oxygen, Jing had scaled Manaslu’s fore-summit on 2017. “But, she returned to Nepal to attempt the mountain’s true summit this season,” Sherpa said.

Now, Jing is the first Chinese woman to have scaled all true summits of 14 8000er peaks without using oxygen support, said Tendi Sherpa, base camp manager at SST.

Last year, she scaled the 8,027-meter Shishapangma. Jing had scaled Kanchenjunga, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum II, Gasherbrum I, and Cho Oyu in 2023 while Everest, Lhotse, K2, and Broad Peak in 2022, all without using O2. As per record, Jing successfully climbed Makalu in 2018, Annapurna in 2019 and Dhaulagiri in 2021.
