Kathmandu: An Indian climber died at Camp II while descending from the summit point on Mt Everest this morning, taking the season's death toll to four.

According to Nives Karki, director at Pioneer Adventure, Sandeep Are from India breathed his last at Camp II after being rescued from the South Summit during his descent.

Another Indian climber, Arun Kumar Tiwari, who lost contact just below the Hillary Step, is being rescued by two Sherpa climbers, said Karki. Tiwari also scaled Mt Everest yesterday.

"Efforts are underway to bring Are's body to Kathmandu," he added.

Are suffered from snow blindness immediately after reaching the summit and was brought down to Camp II by Sherpa climbers, where he died.

Earlier, three Nepali climbers died on Everest this season: Phura Gyaljen Sherpa, 21, of Thame, Solukhumbu, fell into a crevasse near Camp III and died on the spot; Bijay Ghimire Bishwakarma of Solu Dudhkunda, Solukhumbu, the first Dalit to summit Everest, died of suspected cardiac arrest in the Khumbu Icefall on May 10; and Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, 52, of Gudel, Solukhumbu, died on May 4 after falling while hiking from Gorak Shep.
