KATHMANDU: Renowned American ski mountaineer Jim Morrison along with filmmaker Jimmy Chin reached above Camp III continuing  their final summit push on Mt Everest from the Tibetan side.

According to sources, Morrison plans to make a last attempt to ski down from the northern side of Everest’s summit while Chin is filming his ‘scary ascent’ on Everest.

“The duo are now making final summit push and have reached above 7,500m while team of six trained mountain guides has been supporting them in the death zone,” the sources added.

The team began summit push last night as weather is quite fair now, sources said, adding that they aimed to make history later today.

Morrison attempts the ski descent under a multi-million-dollar National Geographic project.

“The team reached Camp III on October 13 and started heading for summit push last night,” the sources further said.

Morrison aims to complete the ski descent from Everest’s summit as a tribute to his late partner Hilaree Nelson, who died during a similar attempt on Manaslu in 2022. The expedition is logistically managed by Alpenglow Expeditions.

Chin is set to film the historic descent as part of a project jointly funded by the National Geographic Society and The North Face. Last year’s mission was canceled after guides, including Yukta Gurung, met with an accident near Camp II.

This year, the project employs six Nepali guides, four Tibetan guides and ten support staff at the base camp, according to sources.

The details will follow.
