Kami Rita Sherpa scales Everest for record 31st time

KATHMANDU: Renowned climber Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new world record by scaling Mt Everest for the 31st time, further extending his own record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak.
The 54-year-old reached the summit around 4:00 AM today, leading an Indian Army Everest Expedition, according to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks.
Kami Rita, a senior guide with Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition, has summited Everest twice each season over the last two years, bringing his total to 30 before this climb.
Born in Thame village, Solukhumbu, Kami Rita began his mountaineering career in 1992 and has since become a symbol of Nepali high-altitude guiding. Beyond Everest, his achievements include successful ascents of K2, Lhotse, Manaslu (3 times), and Cho Oyu (8 times).
His latest feat cements his legendary status in mountaineering and highlights Nepal’s enduring role as the epicenter of global adventure tourism.
