KATHMANDU: A record-holding Sherpa climber from Makalu of Sankhuwasabha district scaled Carstensz Pyramid on the island of New Guinea this morning as he aims to complete all seven summits.

According to the expedition organizer, Lakpa Sherpa, a senior mountain guide from Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition stood atop Ociana's highest peak at around 7:00 am local time, said 14 Peaks Expeditions.

Lakpa scaled the 4,884-metre peak after he found a fair summit window, it added. Earlier, Lakpa, before heading towards Indonesia, said that he wanted to complete all seven summits.

Lakpa, who scaled several peaks, made headlines in 2022 after he scaled Mt Makalu for the third time in 16 days becoming the only climber to make the most ascents of 8485-metre peaks in a single season.

Lakpa made the first ascent of Makalu on 12 May, second on 20 May and third on 28 May 2022.The record holding climber has already climbed Mt Everest, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Elbrus.

“Carstensz Pyramid is his fourth one of seven summits,” said Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer at 14 Peaks Expedition.
