KATHMANDU: The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) will host the General Assembly of the International Mountain Museum Alliance (IMMA) on March 7–8 at the International Mountain Museum (IMM) in Gharipatan, Pokhara.
This is the first time Nepal will host the IMMA General Assembly. IMMA is a global network of mountain museums dedicated to preserving and promoting mountain heritage. The IMM, a flagship initiative of NMA, is currently the only Asian member of the alliance.
According to Fur Gelje Sherpa, President of NMA, the assembly will bring together 14 delegates from at least six countries, including Italy, Poland, Switzerland, India, and Romania. Key discussions will focus on policies and programs for the promotion of mountains, mountaineers, mountain regions, and mountain communities for the upcoming fiscal year, he added.
NMA has completed all necessary preparations and will also offer optional cultural and trekking experiences, including visits to Australian Camp and the Everest Base Camp region, allowing participants to experience Nepal’s iconic mountain landscapes, Sherpa stated in the press release.
