KATHMANDU: Renowned Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel has reached Everest Base Camp with his support team, according to the expedition organiser.

As per the Department of Tourism, Bargiel holds the only Everest permit, his teammates — climber Dariusz Zaluski and a film crew led by his brother Bartek — obtained Lhotse and Nuptse permits this season

Lhotse and Nuptse permits allow access to Camps 2 and 3, giving the team the perfect vantage points to support and film Bargiel’s daring oxygen-free climb and ski descent of Everest, expedition organiser said.

At least 18 Sherpa climbers including IFMGA guides also joined Bargiel and team to make his rare ski descent attempt a success, it added. Andrzej, who wanted to climb and ski down Everest without using supplemental oxygen as well as without unfastening the skis this autumn, is logistically supported by Seven Summit Treks.
