KATHMANDU: Saudi mountaineer Mona Kamal Shahab has successfully completed the prestigious Seven Summits Challenge after summiting Carstensz Pyramid on February 27.
With the ascent of Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak in Oceania, Shahab became one of the select climbers worldwide to have stood atop the highest mountain on each continent.
The expedition was supported by 14 Peaks Expedition, which described the achievement as a historic milestone.
“Standing on the highest point of every continent is a feat reserved for the most dedicated adventurers. Mona’s perseverance and spirit have inspired the mountaineering community,” said Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer of 14 Peaks Expedition. “We are honoured to have been part of her final step toward this world-class achievement.”
The Seven Summits Challenge is considered one of mountaineering’s most demanding accomplishments, requiring climbers to summit the highest peaks of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Oceania.
