KATHMANDU: When Tenzing David Sherpa set out this spring, a Triple Crown was not on his agenda. It became one anyway — and in under five days.

The Nepali mountaineer summited Nuptse (7,861m) on May 17, Mount Everest (8,848m) on May 20, and Lhotse (8,516m) on May 21 within five days this season, completing one of the rarest achievements in Himalayan climbing. Only a handful of climbers worldwide have completed the Triple Crown — the ascent of all three Khumbu giants — in a single season.

The achievement was announced by his elder brother Dawa Steven Sherpa, Managing Director at Asian Trekking Pvt Ltd, who revealed that Tenzing David had not planned or prepared for the challenge in advance. He stepped in at short notice when circumstances required it, taking over the organisation of rope-fixing on Nuptse and leading clients safely on all three peaks within a constrained timeframe.

"What makes me most proud is not the demonstration of your incredible strength, endurance and willpower," Dawa Steven wrote. "What I am most proud of is your rare character in how you take on responsibility far beyond anyone's expectations, your quiet humility when you turn them into successes."

For those in Nepal's tourism and hospitality industry, Tenzing David Sherpa is a familiar name — though better known off the mountain than on it. He is the Director of Asian Trekking, Nepal's oldest trekking and expedition operator, founded by their father Ang Tshering Sherpa in 1981, and serves as Managing Director of Himalayan Chain Resort and The Terraces Resort and Spa, which has earned multiple international awards for its eco-conscious approach, Himalayan architecture and luxury wellness offerings.

His professional background is equally distinctive. A graduate cum laude from Ghent University with a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy in 2012, he founded Kinesiology Physiotherapy upon returning to Nepal, where he has worked with athletes, trekkers, mountaineers and patients to advance sports rehabilitation and evidence-based physiotherapy in the country.

The Triple Crown adds a rare mountaineering dimension to a profile that already bridges adventure tourism, wellness, rehabilitation and sustainable hospitality — a combination that speaks directly to where Nepal's high-end tourism industry is headed.
