KATHMANDU: Hollywood is set to bring the legendary story of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first person to summit Mount Everest, to the big screen with the biographical film "Tenzing." The movie will hit theaters on October 9, followed by its streaming premiere on Apple TV+ on October 16.

Directed by Jennifer Peedom, the production was shot extensively across Nepal, capturing the country's most iconic landscapes — from the Everest region and Mustang to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Bandipur. Reports indicate the Nepal shooting schedule alone cost an estimated NPR 150 million, underscoring the scale of the production.

The film stars Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay and Tom Hiddleston as Sir Edmund Hillary, with Nepali actress Thinley Lhamo playing Dawa, Tenzing's wife.

Beyond retelling the historic 1953 Everest ascent, "Tenzing" is expected to spotlight Nepal's spectacular mountain scenery to audiences worldwide — a welcome boost for the country's tourism profile ahead of the film's release.
