Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan visits Sherpa House in Golden, praises efforts to promote Nepali heritage abroad
GOLDEN, COLORADO: Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan has praised the Sherpa community for its role in promoting Nepali culture in the United States during a visit to the Sherpa House Restaurant and Culture House in Golden, Colorado.
During the visit, Mayor Maharjan commended the Sherpa House team and its founder Lhakpa Sherpa for preserving Nepal’s cultural heritage and introducing Nepali traditions and cuisine to an international audience. He thanked Lhakpa Sherpa and his family for their continued efforts in showcasing Nepali identity abroad.
“We are truly honoured by your presence,” Lhakpa Sherpa said, welcoming the mayor. “Your visit encourages us to continue sharing our culture with pride and authenticity.”
Established in 2009 by Lhakpa Sherpa and his wife Phurba Diki, Sherpa House has grown into a cultural hub in Colorado. Beyond a restaurant, it offers visitors an immersive experience of Himalayan culture through traditional décor, artefacts and authentic Nepali dishes, including momos.
Lhakpa Sherpa said the goal has always been to create a space where food and culture come together. “Every dish tells a story, and every artefact reflects Himalayan heritage,” he said.
He also shared plans to establish a Sherpa Community Center in Colorado, envisioned as a space for cultural exchange, education, adventure and spiritual connection, further strengthening ties between the Sherpa community and the wider public.
