KATHMANDU: Nepali scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, engineers and healthcare professionals from across the United States convened in Austin, Texas on July 18 and 19 for the NRNA Knowledge Convention 2026, organised by the Science, Technology and Innovation Committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association USA.

The two-day convention brought together diaspora experts across disciplines to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration in support of Nepal's development, with presentations spanning artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, scientific research, entrepreneurship, healthcare, food science, infrastructure geopolitics and the scientific and philosophical dimensions of Buddha's enlightenment.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Niraj Bajracharya shared his journey from scientific career to peace advocacy, drawing on his experience as media coordinator for the Walk for Peace initiative — a cross-country campaign from Texas to Washington DC promoting peace, compassion and social harmony.

Other presenters included Eng Subhash Paudel, Dr Umakant Mishra, Dr Dinesh Paudel, Dr Kavita Ghimire, Bed Nidhi Dahal and Dr Parshu Dahal, covering topics from artificial intelligence and food science to infrastructure geopolitics, healthcare and sustainable development.

The convention was organised under the leadership of Dr Chandra Giri, Chair of the NRNA USA STI Committee, with support from Dr Ganga Acharya, Vice President of NRNA USA and Director of STI.

The primary objective of the event, according to organisers, was to establish a platform for sharing scientific knowledge and research findings among Nepali experts worldwide while building stronger connections with Nepal's academic, research and development institutions. Discussions focused on fostering research partnerships, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, mentoring the next generation of Nepali professionals and applying science and technology to Nepal's sustainable development goals.
