KATHMANDU: A renowned climber who has scaled Mt Everest 15 times has also completed five of the Seven Summits, after recently scaling the highest mountain in Europe.

Aang Phurba Sherpa, who often works for Madison Mountaineering/Himalayan Guides, stood atop Mt Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, on August 13, completing five of the highest peaks on each continent.

“After scaling Mt Elbrus (5,642m), I have to climb two more peaks to complete all Seven Summits,” Sherpa, who has also scaled K2 three times, shared.

Born in Khebalung, Sankhuwasabha district, Aang Phurba has already completed eight of the 14 mountains above 8,000m. “I will soon attempt to climb Oceania’s highest peak—Carstensz Pyramid—and North America’s Mt Denali to complete the Seven Summits,” he added.

With over 30 high-altitude Himalayan and Karakoram expeditions under his belt, he has already scaled Mt Everest (8,848.86m) in Asia, Aconcagua (6,961m) in South America, Mount Vinson (4,892m) in Antarctica, Mt Elbrus (5,642m) in Europe, and Kilimanjaro (5,895m) in Africa.
