Bodies of missing Indian tourists recovered in Manang after weeks of search

Father and daughter found buried under snow; remains airlifted to Kathmandu for post-mortem

KATHMANDU: The bodies of two Indian nationals who had gone missing in Manang nearly three weeks ago have been recovered, according to the Nepali Army.

The deceased have been identified as Jignesh Kumar Lallubhai Patel (52) and his daughter Priyansa Kumari Patel (17). They were found buried under snow in Ngisyang Rural Municipality–6 and their remains were brought to Chame District Hospital before being sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu for post-mortem examination.

According to the Chief District Administration Office, Manang, the Indian tourists had gone missing on October 20 after leaving Gyaltsen Hotel to visit a nearby monastery in Ngisyang–5.

The search operation, carried out jointly by the Nepali Army’s Bhairavi Dal Gulm, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force, was hindered by continuous snowfall and challenging terrain, Nepali Army said.
