KATHMANDU: A cultural programme showcasing a fusion of Japanese and Newari musical traditions was held in Kathmandu on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.

The event, titled Harmony of Drums: A Japanese–Newari Cultural Music Fusion 2026, was organised at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) auditorium in Bhrikutimandap. It was jointly hosted by NTB and Japan-based World U Academy (Hero’s Club).

The programme brought together artists from both countries, highlighting cultural exchange through music and performance. The main attraction was a drum performance by members of Hero’s Club, who travelled from Japan, delivering a synchronized presentation reflecting Japan’s rich cultural heritage.

Nepal Cultural Corporation artists also performed traditional Dhime Baja and Newari cultural music, showcasing Nepal’s indigenous artistic traditions. The fusion performance created a unique cultural dialogue symbolising harmony and shared values.

Speaking at the event, NTB officiating director Sunil Sharma said such initiatives play a key role in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting Nepal as a culturally diverse destination in the Japanese market.

The organisers said the programme aimed to deepen people-to-people ties and cultural understanding between the two countries, as Nepal and Japan continue to celebrate seven decades of diplomatic friendship.
