Tree plantation, heritage clean-up, folk music, and fundraising highlight a day of meaningful travel impact.

BHAKTAPUR: Global tour operator Intrepid Travel celebrated its first-ever ‘Intrepid Day’ on July 24, dedicating the occasion to culture, connection, and community impact. The annual event will now be observed worldwide, reflecting the company’s mission to promote responsible travel and positive change.

In Nepal, the celebration kicked off at the historic Changunarayan Temple, where Intrepid staff and local partners joined hands to clean the sacred UNESCO World Heritage site. The team then collaborated with the local community forest group to plant over 200 trees, symbolizing a small but meaningful step toward a greener future.

The day was infused with rich Newari culture — from sharing traditional cuisine to enjoying folk tunes of the sarangi, an instrument long associated with Nepal’s Gandharva community. Participants later explored Bhaktapur’s vibrant alleys, hidden courtyards, and centuries-old architecture, reconnecting with the essence of slow, mindful travel.

Alongside cultural activities, Intrepid Nepal raised funds for Sagarmatha Next, a partner organization working to reduce mountain waste in the Everest region. This was part of a global fundraising drive that collected AUD $50,000 in just one day, later reaching a total of AUD $150,000 to support more than 50 grassroots partners worldwide.
