Kitchen fire engulfs tourist lodge near Everest base camp, no casualties

KATHMANDU: A tourist lodge at Dingboche in the Mount Everest region was completely reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in its kitchen this afternoon.

“Goodluck Hotel, situated in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 in Dingboche, caught fire, and its main building was completely destroyed,” said hotel owner Kul Bahadur Tamang.

All guests and staff were safely evacuated after the fire broke out in the hotel kitchen, Tamang said. The 17-room hotel was popular among tourists visiting the Everest region. Efforts are underway to douse the fire, and further details of the damage are being assessed, Tamang said.
