KATHMANDU: Trekkers forced to abandon Manaslu itineraries because of flood-damaged trails will now be allowed to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area using their existing Manaslu permits, providing an alternative route during the peak trekking season.
The special arrangement was introduced by the Manaslu Conservation Area Project following severe flooding in the Budhigandaki River that damaged trekking routes and disrupted travel plans in the Manaslu region.
Under the provision, visitors who obtained Manaslu Conservation Area entry permits before the flooding but are unable to continue their planned trek due to trail closures can make a one-time entry into the Annapurna Conservation Area without purchasing a separate permit.
Tourism officials say the measure is intended to minimise disruption for trekkers and support tourism activity while damaged trails in the Manaslu region remain inaccessible.
Authorities have not specified how long the temporary arrangement will remain in effect.
