Manaslu region reopens for trekking

KATHMANDU: The Manaslu Conservation Area has resumed issuing entry permits to trekkers after weather conditions improved following recent heavy rainfall.
The Manaslu Conservation Area Project said entry permits had been suspended from September 24 to 28 as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was forecast across several districts.
The suspension was imposed amid risks of landslides, falling rocks, rising river and stream levels, and damage to trails and bridges.
The project said permit issuance resumed from September 27 as weather and environmental conditions gradually improved.
However, some sections of the trekking trails remain vulnerable to dry landslides and falling rocks. Trekkers, guides, porters, tourism operators and local residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautions, particularly in risk-prone areas.
The project has also urged trekkers to prioritise updates on trail conditions and potential hazards from local authorities and coordinate with relevant agencies before and during their journeys.
