KATHMANDU: Nepal has revoked visa-on-arrival facilities for citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran holding ordinary passports, requiring them to obtain a visa in advance from the nearest Nepali diplomatic mission before travelling to Nepal.
The Department of Immigration announced the policy change pursuant to a Ministry of Home Affairs decision dated March 13, 2026.
Under the revised regulation, Iranian nationals holding ordinary passports must secure a valid entry visa from a competent Nepali diplomatic mission abroad prior to arriving at any Nepali port of entry. The change applies immediately and affects all points of entry into Nepal. The revised policy does not apply to holders of Diplomatic or Official passports, who remain eligible under existing arrangements.
The Department has called on all international airline operators and travel intermediaries to verify that Iranian nationals holding ordinary passports are in possession of a pre-approved Nepali visa before boarding flights to Nepal.
