Nepal highlights tourism opportunities at promotion seminar in Hong Kong

Event highlights Nepal’s natural charm, calls for innovation and diaspora engagement in tourism growth

KATHMANDU: The Consulate-General of Nepal in Hong Kong hosted the Nepal Tourism Promotion Seminar 2025 on July 15, bringing together local tourism representatives, academics, and community leaders to discuss how Nepal’s tourism offerings can better connect with the interests of Hong Kong travellers.

Professor Kaye Chon, Dean of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was the special guest. Sharing his personal experiences visiting Nepal, he praised the country’s natural beauty and cultural richness, while encouraging further development in tourism infrastructure and innovation.

A panel discussion on the theme “Harmonising Nepal tourism products to Hong Kong tourists’ priorities” featured tourism and hospitality experts including Prof. Catherine Cheung, Prof. Ada Lo, and Prof. Roshis Krishna Shrestha.

They discussed tourist preferences, use of AI and digital platforms in tourism entrepreneurship, and the importance of diversifying tourism beyond traditional attractions. The discussion was moderated by Consul Satish Gurung.

Consul-General Dr. Bindeswar Prasad Lekhak emphasized the opportunities in Nepal’s tourism sector and called on the Nepali diaspora in Hong Kong to play an active role in promoting tourism and investing in Nepal.

Brief presentations were also made by  Migee K C, Country Manager for Nepal Airlines in Hong Kong, and Prakash Pun, a known tourism promoter for Nepal in the region.

The event was attended by travel and hospitality professionals, academics, and community representatives from across Hong Kong, contributing to an open exchange of ideas on enhancing Nepal’s visibility as a preferred destination.
