KATHMANDU: Nepal today marked the 46th World Tourism Day with the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” by organizing various tourism-related programs in collaboration with stakeholders.
On the occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation highlighted Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical heritage as key strengths to position the country as a premier global destination. Officials emphasized the need to create an environment where visitors can enjoy safe and memorable experiences, calling it a shared responsibility of all.
Tourism Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali said Nepal’s geographical diversity, art, culture, and hospitality have made the country an attractive destination worldwide. He stressed that World Tourism Day reminds everyone of the importance of making tourism sustainable, inclusive, and responsible.
The government has prioritized community-based tourism, promotion of local products, use of green energy, and expansion of tourism infrastructure to establish Nepal as an eco-friendly and sustainable destination. Mainali added that coordinated efforts among federal, provincial, and local governments, alongside the private sector, are vital for infrastructure development and promotion.
The tourism policy aims to diversify tourism products, ensure quality services, generate employment, and contribute to economic growth. He also called for joint efforts to revive the tourism sector, which has faced setbacks due to the recent Gen Z protests, and expressed best wishes to all stakeholders for continued success.
