KATHMANDU: Nepal has secured a landmark victory in global luxury tourism, with Shinta Mani Mustang crowned the world's No. 1 luxury hotel in Robb Report's prestigious "50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth 2026" ranking, elevating the country's profile far beyond its traditional identity as an adventure travel destination.

The 29-room luxury lodge in Lower Mustang topped the global list compiled by Robb Report after evaluations by 24 of the world's leading luxury travel specialists, surpassing renowned properties in Rwanda, Scotland, Japan, India, Italy, the United Kingdom and France.

The annual ranking, regarded as one of the luxury travel industry's most influential benchmarks, is based on recommendations from the publication's "Travel Masters"—elite advisors who curate bespoke travel experiences for high-net-worth travellers worldwide.

Designed by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley and operated by Sherpa Hospitality Group (SHG), Shinta Mani Mustang has rapidly emerged as one of Asia's most celebrated luxury retreats since opening in August 2023. The resort offers immersive experiences rooted in Mustang's culture and landscapes, including horseback riding, trekking, archery, visits to the 800-year-old Bon Buddhist village of Lubra and traditional healing therapies by an on-site Amchi Tibetan doctor.

In announcing the ranking, Robb Report described the property as "the ultimate retreat for the body, mind and spirit", highlighting its panoramic mountain views and its location in the remote Kali Gandaki Valley, where guests are encouraged to stay for a minimum of five nights.

The recognition marks another milestone in the resort's rapid international rise. Shinta Mani Mustang was included in global "Best of the Best" and "50 Best Luxury Hotels in the World" lists in 2024 before being named the Best Luxury Adventure Hotel in 2025.
