Seven climbers missing, four injured in Yalung-Ri avalanche

KATHMANDU: At least seven climbers went missing and four others injured when a massive avalanche hit them while climbing Yalung Ri peak in Rolwaling valley.

According to police, two climbers from Italy, one each from France, Germany and Canada along with two Nepali guides Padam Tamang and Mehar Karki went missing in an avalanche this afternoon.

Four climbers were injured in the incident, police said. A chopper from Heli Everest already reached there for rescue operations. “Rescue team has already been dropped at the base camp,” police said.

The incident occurred when climbers from different agencies were acclimatizing on Yalung Ri before attempting to climb Dolma Khang peak in the region, police added.
