KATHMANDU: The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued an advisory for trekking operators and visitors planning restricted-area treks during the upcoming Dashain festival, urging them to apply for permits in advance.

According to TAAN, the Department of Immigration (DoI) is expected to remain closed from October 1–3, 2025, which may delay the verification and approval of Restricted Area Trekking Permits.

However, TAAN said a consensus has been reached with immigration officials to process permits before the holiday for tourists arriving in Nepal on those dates. Trekking agencies must submit copies of clients’ passports or visas, confirmed flight tickets, and other required documents by September 30, 2025, to secure approvals in time.

TAAN added that it is in continuous coordination with the DoI and will share further updates as decisions are finalized.

Restricted areas in Nepal—including regions such as Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, and Manaslu—require special permits beyond the standard trekking fees, making early preparation essential for trekkers planning trips during the festive season.
