KATHMANDU: Nepal's trekking sector has begun its spring round of professional guide training, with 179 participants, including 38 women, enrolled in programmes that kicked off at the Nepal Academy of Tourism, Hospitality and Mountaineering (NATHM) in Rabibhawan, Kathmandu on Monday.

The training is coordinated by the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) and executed by NATHM. Of the total participants, 148 are enrolled in the 35-day Trekking Guide Training while the remaining 31 are taking part in the 15-day Trekking Porter Guide Training. Participants who successfully complete the programmes will be eligible to obtain their Trekking Guide Licence and Trekking Porter Guide Licence respectively.

An orientation ceremony held at NATHM marked the start of the training, during which officials from both organisations welcomed participants and briefed them on training objectives, course content, methodologies, and the expectations of the mountain tourism sector from prospective trekking guides.
