Tourist arrivals in Nepal reach 78,711 in September; India, U.S., and Australia lead source markets

Overall recovery rate hits 85% of pre-pandemic levels

KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed 78,711 international visitors in September 2025, as per the latest Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) data based on immigration records.

Though the arrivals represent an 18.3 percent year-on-year decline, the country’s tourism sector has reached an 85 percent recovery compared to the same month in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

India continues to top the list with the most visitors to Nepal at 15,556 arrivals, followed by the United States (9,679), Australia (6,824), China (5,237), and the United Kingdom (4,981).

Among regional markets, South Asia contributed the most with 30.9 percent of total visitors, while Europe accounted for 21.1 percent. Arrivals from Oceania rose sharply by 32.8 percent, driven mainly by Australian travelers, whereas Asian markets like China, Japan, and South Korea recorded significant drops.
