KATHMANDU: The Tourist Guide Association of Nepal (Turgan), in coordination with Tourist Police, has taken action against tourist guides operating without licences during inspections at Basantapur and Swayambhu.
In a statement, Turgan said the inspections were conducted on Tuesday and resulted in action against guides found showing foreign tourists around without the required licences.
Turgan President Prabha Laxmi Pradhanang urged guides whose licences are due for renewal or have expired to renew them and wear their licences visibly while guiding foreign visitors at tourist sites.
The association also asked travel and trekking companies to employ only licensed and legally authorised tourist guides when taking foreign visitors to tourist attractions.
Turgan said guides have a responsibility to present Nepal positively to international visitors and urged them to carry out their work professionally, with discipline and integrity.
