KATHMANDU: Buddha Air is set to reconnect Nepal and India’s cultural hub of Kolkata with four weekly direct flights starting October 19, the airline announced.
Buddha Air first launched the Kathmandu–Kolkata route on May 27, 2019, operating three flights a week—every Monday, Wednesday and Friday—with a flight time of about one hour and 30 minutes. The service was later suspended, but the carrier says it is now ready to welcome travelers again.
The revived schedule will offer three weekly departures from Tribhuvan International Airport’s international terminal in Kathmandu to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (IATA: CCU), located less than 20 km from Kolkata’s city center. Flights will continue to take around 1 hour 30 minutes in each direction.
The route is expected to boost leisure and business travel between Nepal and eastern India, offering easier access to Kolkata’s colonial architecture, vibrant markets and renowned culinary scene, while inviting Indian travelers to explore Nepal’s natural and cultural attractions.
