KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has brought its narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft (registration 9N-AKX) back into regular operation following the completion of long-pending engine repair and installation work.

The aircraft, which had remained at Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in Israel for an extended period due to engine maintenance issues, arrived in Kathmandu on Monday, operating a Tel Aviv–Dubai–Kathmandu flight. With this, the aircraft has rejoined NAC’s regular flight schedule.

According to the national flag carrier, disputes related to engine maintenance and lease costs were resolved through negotiations based on the existing Maintenance with Lease Support agreement with IAI, leading to the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

NAC said the settlement resulted in the waiver of 12 months of engine lease charges and engine installation costs, which the airline received as compensation. The resolution was achieved through sustained efforts by Executive Chairman Amritman Shrestha and senior management.

With the return of 9N-AKX, Nepal Airlines is now operating regular flights with all four of its aircraft, the corporation said.
