KATHMANDU: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced that two of its seven weekly flights between Singapore and Kathmandu will be operated using wide-body aircraft during Nepal’s spring season in March and April 2026.
According to the details announced by the airline, the wide-body aircraft will be deployed from March 4 to April 24, 2026, with the remaining flights during this period continuing to be operated using narrow-body aircraft. During this period, SIA will operate wide-body aircraft on Wednesdays and Fridays, while the remaining five weekly services will continue to be operated using narrow-body aircraft.
The move will make the aircraft the largest by seat capacity to operate at Tribhuvan International Airport during the period, with a total of 337 seats, comprising 36 Business Class seats and 301 Economy Class seats.
Flight operations and schedule
Under the revised spring schedule, the wide-body services will operate as follows:
SQ442: Singapore–Kathmandu, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing at 1855 hrs and arriving at 2140 hrs
SQ441: Kathmandu–Singapore, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing at 2305 hrs and arriving at 0615 hrs (+1 day)
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the airline will continue operating the same route with narrow-body aircraft. These services will depart Singapore at 1855 hrs and Kathmandu at 2300 hrs, maintaining daily connectivity between the two cities throughout the season.
Capacity boost during trekking season
The introduction of wide-body aircraft is expected to significantly increase available seat capacity at a time when Nepal typically experiences heightened travel demand. The spring months attract large numbers of international tourists for trekking and mountaineering activities, while also coinciding with peak travel periods for Nepalis residing overseas returning home and outbound holiday travel from Nepal.
Industry observers note that capacity enhancement during this window supports both inbound tourism flows and outbound leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives (VFR) traffic.
Aircraft features and onboard product
The wide-body aircraft deployed on the Kathmandu route will feature Singapore Airlines’ long-haul cabin configuration. Business Class seats recline into 76-inch fully-flat beds, each measuring up to 26 inches in width, with direct aisle access for all passengers. Economy Class seats are equipped with ergonomically designed contour backrests and six-way adjustable headrests with foldable wings for improved neck support.
The aircraft will also be fitted with the airline’s latest-generation KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system, offering access to more than 1,900 movies, television programmes, music albums and games, powered by Panasonic’s eX3 platform. The system allows passengers to personalise their entertainment experience, including saving playlists and resuming content across flights.
In addition, the aircraft will offer complimentary unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi, with access available to all Business Class passengers, PPS Club members and supplementary cardholders. Economy Class passengers can also access unlimited Wi-Fi by enrolling as KrisFlyer members.
Singapore Airlines currently operates daily services between Singapore and Kathmandu, maintaining one of the most consistent international air links connecting Nepal with Southeast Asia and beyond.
