KATHMANDU: A total of 21 climbers, including international mountaineers and Sherpa guides, successfully reached the summit of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812m) between October 20 and November 7, according to expedition organizer, Seven Summit Treks.

Despite challenging weather late in the season, multiple teams led by the company achieved summit success in several rotations, marking another highlight of the autumn climbing season, the SST added.

The first ascent was made on October 20 by Melanie Valentina Grunwald of Austria. On October 26, a larger group including Andrej Stremfelj and Miran Rojljek of Slovenia, Antonio Rossi of Italy, Wesley Hubert N. Himpe of Belgium, Thomas Vendelbo Brown of Denmark, and five Sherpa climbers—Ngawang Paljor, Gyalbu, Lakpa Rinje, and Lakpasange—also stood atop the mountain.

Further summits followed on October 27 by David Gitonga Wandai of Kenya and Lakpa Sonam Sherpa; on November 4 by Alfred Winkler of Austria and Phursang Sherpa; and on November 7 by a final team including Songxiong Cao of China, Daria Borisova of Russia, Martin Mumo Stephen of Kenya, and Sherpa climbers Sirjangbu, Rinje, and Nyima Gyalu.

Seven Summit Treks congratulated all climbers and support staff for their teamwork and safe ascent, describing Ama Dablam as “one of Nepal’s most iconic and technically beautiful mountains.”
