Female climbers from six nations unite in Nepal’s Rolwaling Valley to celebrate empowerment and mountain camaraderie

ROLWALING: In the serene heights of Rolwaling Valley, where the echoes of yak bells mingle with the chill Himalayan wind, a group of women from across the Himalayas have come together for a rare and inspiring mission — to climb Ramdung Peak (5,930 m).

The Hamdeli Ramdung Peak 2025 Expedition brings together female climbers from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, India, Nepal, and the United States for a shared adventure rooted in skill, unity, and empowerment.

"Over the three-week expedition, participants are receiving first-aid and rescue training prior to attempting the summit of Ramdung Peak (5,930 m), which rises above Na Village in the Rolwaling Valley of Dolakha District," said IFMGA guide Pasang Kidar Sherpa, who, along with Mingma Chhiri Sherpa, is leading the training and acclimatization sessions in Dolakha.

“This initiative celebrates the expanding role of women in high-altitude mountaineering and strengthens cross-border friendships through shared challenges,” Pasang Kidar added.

The diverse team includes Amina and Siddiqa Hanif (Pakistan), Neki Haidari (Afghanistan), Maryam Sharipova and Furugh Sharkarmamadova (Tajikistan), Tsetan Dolma (India), and Srijana Tamang (Nepal).

Guided by Danika Gilbert (USA) — an experienced mountain guide and Executive Director of the US-based non-profit Hamdeli — the expedition aims to inspire future generations of women to explore the world’s great ranges with confidence and cooperation.

Over the three-week journey, the climbers are receiving technical mountaineering, rescue, and first-aid training before their summit bid on Ramdung, which towers above Na Village in Dolakha’s Rolwaling region.

The project, supported by Khangri Trek of Kathmandu, symbolizes more than a climb — it’s a celebration of resilience, adventure, and the unifying power of the mountains.

“This initiative celebrates the spirit of unity and the expanding role of women in high-altitude mountaineering,” Khangri Trek said in a statement.
