KATHMANDU: A British deaf climber who faced difficulties in the death zone on Mt Everest while descending from the summit has been rescued safely to South Col, said an expedition organiser.
"Our Sherpa team rescued British deaf mountaineer and BBC Sign Language presenter Michael Joseph Woods from the South Summit to South Col safely," said Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expeditions.
Woods lost contact for a while during his descent from the summit point yesterday, and Sherpa climbers were mobilised immediately to rescue him, he added.
"Another Sherpa climber who was in trouble just below the summit point has also been taken to Camp III safely," said Lakpa.
Woods, a BBC BSL TV presenter, climbed Mt Everest as part of his Seven Summits challenge — an attempt to scale the highest peak on each of the seven continents.
