KATHMANDU: High in the icy winds of the Himalaya, Nepali mountain guide Chhiring Sherpa added the final summit to his extraordinary list, Mt. Cho Oyu (8,188m), completing all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks.

At 7:45 a.m. (China time) on Monday, the internationally certified IFMGA/UIAGM and NNMGA guide stood atop the world’s sixth-highest mountain, marking a crowning moment in a career defined by precision, passion, and perseverance.

Originally from the Makalu region, Chhiring’s story is one of steady ascent — from young climber to one of Nepal’s most respected expedition leaders. As Managing Director at Expedition Base.com, he has guided international teams across continents while maintaining deep ties to Nepal’s mountaineering community.

In recent years, he has rewritten the limits of endurance: a record-breaking 12-hour, 20-minute ascent of K2 in 2023, followed by four 8,000-meter summits in just 24 days that same season.

But Chhiring’s impact extends beyond the summits. A passionate mentor, he teaches at the Khumbu Climbing Center in partnership with the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation, and leads training for the Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association (NMIA). His experience guiding in New Zealand’s Southern Alps and Australia’s Rocky Mountains further highlights his global expertise.

His climbing legacy, marked by quiet excellence and unwavering commitment, spans the Himalayas' most formidable peaks, Everest, K2, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri. He has stood atop Everest and the notoriously difficult K2 three times each, Kangchenjunga twice, and the iconic Ama Dablam an astounding seven times, in addition to multiple ascents of New Zealand's Mt. Aspiring and Mt. Cook.

With this latest ascent, Chhiring Sherpa joins an elite group of global mountaineers who have conquered all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, placing Nepal once again at the summit of world alpinism.
