KATHMANDU: Nepali climber Dawa Finjok Sherpa has officially received a Guinness World Records certificate recognising him as the fastest person to climb Mount Everest three times from the Nepal side.
The certificate confirms his record time of 8 days, 13 hours and 35 minutes, set across three summits on 12, 17 and 20 May 2024.
The official citation reads: "The fastest time to climb Everest three times from the Nepal (South) side is 8 days, 13 hours and 35 minutes by Dawa Finjok Sherpa (Nepal), who made his ascents from base camp to summit on 12, 17 and 20 May 2024."
Dawa completed his first ascent on 12 May at 7:25 am, his second on 17 May at 3:16 pm, and his third and record-breaking summit on 20 May at 9:00 pm — all with supplemental oxygen as part of the Seven Summit Treks Everest Expedition.
According to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Director of Seven Summit Treks, "His feat is not just a personal triumph, but a source of inspiration for the entire mountaineering community," adding that the record reflects the dedication, resilience and physical and mental strength of the Sherpa community.
Mount Everest stands at 8,848.86 metres. All three ascents were made from base camp via the Nepal, or South, route.
