KATHMANDU: Dawa Sherpa, popularly known as Hillary Dawa, who was airlifted from the Everest region, is stable and out of danger, said doctors attending him.

Dr Nishant Dhakal, a senior medical surgeon at HAMS Hospital, said Dawa is recovering quickly and his condition is stable. Dr Dhakal is also the Head of Department - Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital Care at HAMS.

Dawa was airlifted from Gorakshep to HAMS Hospital this morning after a team from the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee rescued him from Crampon Point near the icefall section on Mount Everest.

An Altitude Helicopter was dispatched from Lukla to Gorakshep for evacuation to fly him to HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu for treatment by 8K Expeditions. Earlier yesterday, 8K Expeditions had also mobilised an aerial search team to locate him; however, they did not find him.

"The fingers of both his hands suffered frostbite, but the rest seems OK," Dr Dhakal said.

Dawa is under close monitoring in the emergency ward of the hospital, said Nishan Shrestha, International Marketing Director at HAMS.

Damu Sherpa, Dawa's wife, demanded stern action against Himalayan Traverse for sheer negligence. "This happened because of Himalayan Traverse's negligence," said Damu, who had come to HAMS to see her husband.

Dawa miraculously survived on Mount Everest for a week after being left behind by fellow climbers on May 29.
