KATHMANDU: The Expedition Operators Association of Nepal (EOAN) rope-fixing team successfully completed the route to the summit of Lhotse (8,516m) on Sunday morning, opening the world's fourth highest mountain for all climbers this spring season.
The team reached the top at around 8:10 am, finishing the rope-fixing mission, according to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks.
The five-member team included Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, Mingma Tenje Sherpa, Pam Dorjee Sherpa, Pasang Tenjing Sherpa, and Lopsang Bhote.
"Now more climbers will attempt to scale the world's fourth highest mountain," EOAN General Secretary Rishi Bhandari said.
The operation was managed by EOAN with Seven Summit Treks serving as the official logistical partner, and was closely coordinated by Seven Summit Treks Director Chhang Dawa Sherpa. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) also supported the mission.
With ropes now in place from base camp to the summit, Lhotse climbing teams can officially launch their ascents.
