Second edition to focus on Himalayan innovation, sustainability and climber safety on International Everest Day

KATHMANDU: Everest Alliance Nepal (EAN) has announced the second edition of the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, scheduled to be held on May 27, 2026, in Kathmandu to mark International Everest Day.

The one-day summit, themed “Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future,” will commemorate the historic first ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. It aims to bring together Everest summiteers from Nepal and abroad, along with policymakers, mountaineering institutions, conservation leaders, tourism professionals, researchers, and international partners.

According to EAN, the summit will serve as a global platform for dialogue on issues including mountaineering legacy, expedition safety, climate change impacts, sustainable tourism, and the future of Himalayan expeditions. Planned sessions include keynote addresses, expert panels, and policy-level discussions focusing on challenges such as glacial retreat, waste management in high-altitude regions, climber welfare, and regulatory reform.

The announcement follows the first Everest Summiteers Summit held in 2025 under the theme “Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future.” EAN said the inaugural event was widely regarded as a landmark gathering that strengthened international cooperation, encouraged policy discussions, and reinforced Nepal’s role in global mountain stewardship.

EAN stated that the 2026 summit will move beyond commemoration to emphasise recognition of Everest summiteers, preservation of first-hand summit narratives, international collaboration and the promotion of ethical, community-centred mountain tourism. Sessions will be led by Everest summiteers as well as national and international experts and institutional leaders.

The organisation has also officially opened registration for the summit, inviting participation from Everest summiteers worldwide, as well as interested individuals and institutions.

Everest Alliance Nepal is a national collective platform of Everest summiteers and mountain professionals that advocates for climber safety, environmental sustainability, ethical mountaineering practices, and the strengthening of Nepal’s leadership in global mountaineering and Himalayan conservation.
