KATHMANDU: A team of five climbers has successfully reached the summit of Annapurna IV (7,525 metres) this autumn season, according to expedition organizer Seven Summit Treks.
The ascent took place over two consecutive days, October 19 and 20, under fair weather conditions. On October 19, Oleg Kiriyanov of Russia, along with Nepali climbers Gyalu Sherpa and Pema Sherpa, reached the top. The following day, Sophie Lavaud, a French-Swiss-Canadian mountaineer, and Dawa Sangay Sherpa also stood on the summit, the SST added.
The climbers made a 1,000-metre push from Camp 3 and negotiated an exposed final ridge without fixed ropes, the company said.
“Annapurna IV, despite being a beautiful peak, is rarely climbed. The team’s perseverance and skill throughout this technically demanding ascent are truly praiseworthy,” Seven Summit Treks said.
