KATHMANDU: Five Romanian climbers summited Ama Dablam (6,812 metres) on October 26, setting a record for the highest number of Romanian mountaineers to reach the peak during a single expedition, according to the expedition organiser.
The climbers reached the summit at 7:42am Nepal time. The six-member team was led by Radu Albu, 43, an experienced high-altitude mountain guide from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and organised by Extreme Expeditions.
The summit team comprised Robert Andras, 55; Alina Isopescu, 42; Călin Lupo, 40; David Egedi, 26; and Vladimir Fălcutescu, 29.
The expedition reportedly surpassed the previous record of three Romanian climbers reaching Ama Dablam during a single expedition.
The team was part of the Snowy Horizon Ama Dablam Expedition, according to Bodhraj Bhandari, managing director of Snow Horizon Treks.
Albu has climbed Ama Dablam before, making a solo ascent in 2019 without Sherpa support or a support team on the mountain.
Ama Dablam, which rises 6,812 metres above sea level, is a popular climbing peak in Nepal's Khumbu region. Its steep rock and ice sections and exposed ridges make the ascent technically demanding.
