KATHMANDU: A total of 14 climbers, seven international mountaineers and seven Nepali climbers, successfully summited Lhotse (8,516m) over two consecutive days, according to expedition organiser Seven Summit Treks.
The first summit came on May 17, when Russian mountaineer Daria Borisova reached the top of the world's fourth highest peak accompanied by Nepali climber Taraman Tamang, according to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at SST. Borisova's achievement was particularly notable as she had already summited Makalu earlier this season, making her a double eight-thousander summiteer in a single spring campaign.
The following morning on May 18, a larger team of 12 climbers also stood atop Lhotse, Sherpa informed.
The international contingent comprised Paula Birgitta Strengell of Finland, Bachir Gemayel of Lebanon, Krzysztof Solecki of Poland, and Chinese mountaineers Shengtao Li, Xinyu Cheng, and Gexi Luori. They were supported by Nepali climbers Rajesh Magar, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Phurbu Kusang Sherpa, Rinzee Sherpa, Lakpa Rinje Sherpa, and Dawa Temba Sherpa.
Both expeditions were organised and managed by Seven Summit Treks.
