KATHMANDU: Renowned American ski mountaineer Jim Morrison is all set to make his final summit push on Mt Everest from the Tibetan side on October 14.
According to sources, Morrison plans to make a last attempt to ski down from the northern side of Everest’s summit as the weather forecast indicates a favorable summit window.
“A team of trained mountain guides has already set up Camp II and is now ferrying logistics from Camp I to prepare for the final attempt of the season,” the sources added.
Renowned climber and filmmaker Jimmy Chin and his crew will accompany Morrison as he attempts the ski descent under a multi-million-dollar National Geographic project.
“The team returned to Camp I on October 9 and will head to Camp II carrying logistics,” the sources further said.
Morrison aims to complete the ski descent from Everest’s summit as a tribute to his late partner Hilaree Nelson, who died during a similar attempt on Manaslu in 2022. The expedition is logistically managed by Alpenglow Expeditions.
Chin is set to film the historic descent as part of a project jointly funded by the National Geographic Society and The North Face. Last year’s mission was canceled after guides, including Yukta Gurung, met with an accident near Camp II.
This year, the project employs eight Nepali guides and ten support staff at the base camp, according to sources. The Nepali team departed for Tibet on August 25 for the ambitious expedition.
