KATHMANDU: Senior Seven Summit Treks guide Mingtemba Sherpa has completed the prestigious Triple Crown of the Everest region, Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse, in just eight days, capping a remarkable spring season that has already broken multiple Himalayan records.
Mingtemba first stood atop Everest on May 13 as part of the rope-fixing team that opened the route to the summit this season. He then summited Nuptse on May 17 and Lhotse on May 21, both alongside Norwegian mountaineer Kristin Harila, completing the coveted trilogy of the Everest massif in eight days.
"He just completed the Triple Crown in just eight days," said Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks.
The achievement adds another chapter to an already distinguished high-altitude career. Born in Makalu, Mingtemba has climbed all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres between 2016 and 2024 — a feat accomplished by only a handful of mountaineers in history. As a senior guide with Seven Summit Treks, he has led numerous expeditions across Nepal and Pakistan, consistently at the forefront of some of the most demanding ascents in the Himalayas.
The Triple Crown refers to the summiting of Everest (8,848.86m), Lhotse (8,516m) and Nuptse (7,861m) — the three principal peaks of the Everest massif — and is considered one of the most coveted achievements in Himalayan climbing.
