KATHMANDU: More than 20 climbers, including a rope-fixing team of Sherpa guides from Nepal, scaled Nanga Parbat (8,126m), making the season’s first summit on Pakistan’s 8,000‑meter peaks.

According to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, climbers from different expeditions reached the summit after a team led by renowned SST climber Mingtemba Sherpa opened a route to the world’s ninth‑highest mountain this morning.

The rope‑fixing team members who reached the summit first include Mingtemba Sherpa (Mote), Pasang Dukpa Sherpa, Dawa Rinji Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa (Makpa), and Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, according to Chhang Dawa.

Foreign climbers from the SST expedition, including Tao Hu from China, Antonina Samoilova from Ukraine, and Mindaugas Satkauskas from Lithuania, along with Dawa Sherpa (Italian Dawa), Dendi Sherpa, Lakpa Temba Sherpa, and Pakistani guide Abbas Ali Mehdi, scaled the mountain, he added.

Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, owner of 14 Peaks Expedition, also informed that 11 climbers, including six foreigners from his team, successfully stood atop the mountain this morning.

Located in Pakistan’s Gilgit‑Baltistan region at the western end of the Himalayas, Nanga Parbat is renowned as one of the world’s most demanding and iconic 8,000‑meter peaks. “The international team, alongside our dedicated Sherpa guides and Pakistani high‑altitude staff, successfully stood on the mountain, making it a 100% success,” Tashi Lakpa shared.

According to him, the summiters included Anni Katri Penttila (Finland), Ian Fraser (Ireland), Rebecca Long (USA), Alexander Joseph Hansen (USA), Benjamin Edward Lieber (USA), and Mehboob Ali (Pakistan), along with Phurbu Kusang Sherpa, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Dorchi Sherpa, Kusang Sherpa, and Serjangbu Sherpa from 14 Peaks Expedition.

Blue Sky Treks & Tours locally managed both expeditions for SST and 14 Peaks Expedition.
